Future of work

Marty Resnick,  Vice President on Gartner’s Technology Innovation, presented “Being Human 2045” at the Gartner IT Symposium, a fascinating look at the future of work and how organizations and individuals can prepare for the changes that await us in 2045. The Gartner Futures Lab, a laboratory of innovative ideas, challenges conventional perspectives and encourages us to build scenarios and anticipate the uncertainties that the future holds.

In October 2024, ilegra attended the event, one of the largest innovation and technology events in the world, held in Orlando. Our VP of Strategy and Innovation, Caroline Capitani, attended the presentation and shared some key insights.

Understanding the Future to Shape the Present

Gartner’s VP of Technological Innovation emphasizes the importance of understanding the impact of the future on our current decisions in order to accelerate innovation and optimize business strategies. He also points out that planning for the future should not be limited to technology, but should include political, economic, social, ethical, and environmental factors.

Work and technology in 2045: a new paradigm

Resnick explored the future of work and the impact of technology on our lives. With the rise of automation and artificial intelligence, it is predicted that we will have more free time – up to 12 hours a day! This drastic change will challenge our traditional view of productivity.

The talk invites us to reflect: what will be the value of work when technology takes over most of the tasks? This is a crucial question to ponder, especially in a world where many people identify with their daily tasks and feel compelled to always be busy.

Multiversal Organizations: Embracing Innovation

To thrive in this multiversal future, Resnick argues that organizations must embrace innovation now. The concept of “multiversal organizations” illustrates how companies already operate in multiple worlds: physical, digital, synthetic, and virtual.

Technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and digital twins are transforming communications, climate change, and simulations. Organizations must prepare to take advantage of the opportunities these disruptive technologies offer.

The jobs of the future

The human workforce will need to adapt to this new reality, with the emergence of new roles such as robot guides (sherpas), cybersecurity experts and drone operators.

Anticipating the future

Resnick emphasizes the importance of anticipating the future and imagining how these changes will impact society and organizations. Adopting unconstrained thinking will allow us to envision opportunities in innovative ways and prepare the workforce to collaborate with emerging technologies.

The Being Human 2045 talk invites us to think deeply about the future and equips us with valuable insights to navigate the changes that lie ahead. By embracing innovation, adapting the workforce, and cultivating unconstrained thinking, we can shape a prosperous future full of opportunity.
